What are you supposed to do when you see someone on the street corner asking for help? Give them money? Ignore them? Tell them to get a job?
Our summer video series, “How To Help A Hurting Person,” teaches you how to make a difference for someone in need!

Here’s a summary of the first three episodes:
- Anticipate that you will see someone holding a sign asking for help. When you are prepared for the situation, you’ll be able to make the most of it.
- Smile and actually say hello! Approach the person instead of avoiding them. By acknowledging the person, you show them respect.
- Engage the person. Start a conversation and listen to what they have to say, even if you only have a few moments at a stop sign or traffic light.

Make sure you don’t give money to a person asking for help. Instead, ask them what their greatest need is and help them by giving food, transportation tickets, or another item!
