Portland Rescue Mission is proud to honor the memory of Senator Mark Hatfield, a lifelong public servant and champion of homeless men, women and children.

Senator Hatfield, who passed away on August 7, is known as a statesman and a person of great integrity. He is remembered as a wonderful Christian servant who served Oregon well in two terms as governor and 30 years in the U.S. Senate.

The Senator’s heart for ending homelessness was evident as he helped establish Shepherd’s Door, a ministry of Portland Rescue Mission freeing women and children from the power of homelessness, addiction, hunger and abuse. Senator Hatfield provided vital leadership as chairman of the Shepherd’s Door capital campaign committee. His passionate influence continued to raise support for the ministry many years after the building project was completed in 2003.

Thanks to the Senator’s unwavering support, countless women and children have experienced healing through Portland Rescue Mission’s recovery ministry. The Mark Hatfield Library at Shepherd’s Door is named in his honor.

The family suggests Shepherd’s Door as a recipient of memorial gifts. Donate online or call 503-MISSION (647-7466).
