Summer Internship Opportunities

Portland Rescue Mission has openings for our internship program this summer!

Portland Rescue Mission Internships

Join our crew of dedicated staff and volunteers giving hope to men, women and children suffering from homelessness, addiction, hunger and abuse.

Internships are available in the following areas:

Outreach

The Outreach Department at Portland Rescue Mission provides hospitality services for homeless guests, builds intentional relationships with them, and encourages them away from the destructive environment of the street and toward a life focused on relationship and hope.

Men’s Recovery – Burnside Shelter

The men’s New Life Recovery Program at the Burnside Shelter is a 12- to 18-month residential recovery ministry. Internship opportunities in men’s recovery may include food service management, educational training, life skills, pastoral care, and case management.

Women’s Recovery – Shepherd’s Door

The women’s New Life Recovery Program at Shepherd’s Door is a 12- to 18-month residential recovery ministry. Internship opportunities in women’s recovery may include helping women develop their parenting and home life skills, supporting the residents in their educational growth, resident advocacy, pastoral care, and helping the residents in their vocational roles to create job readiness.

Community Partnership – Administration Office

The Community Partnership Department at Portland Rescue Mission builds relationships with churches and other organizations in order to engage them in helping homeless and addicted people. We network with the community, give presentations, recruit partners, and coordinate special events such as mission trips, overnight experiences, and service projects.

Volunteer Coordination – Administration Office

The Community Partnership Department at Portland Rescue Mission is responsible for overseeing the coordination and involvement of all unpaid staff (about 3,000 volunteers and interns). This team recruits, selects, trains, and leads volunteers into effective ministry with Portland Rescue Mission.

Staff Ministry (Human Resources) – Administration Office

The Staff Ministry team is responsible for all personnel related matters for the nearly 100 staff at Portland Rescue Mission. Staff Ministry manages all Human Resources functions including hiring, staff training, benefits administration and management coaching. This team also works closely with executive leadership to develop Portland Rescue Mission’s ministry culture through staff events, internal communications and policy development.
