Inside the Mission

Gospel Sing in Portland

We are thrilled to partner with three incredible Gospel bands for the Gospel Sing event on October 16th at Central Bible Church. You are in for a treat as The Lighthouse Quartet, The Knox Brothers and Cornerstone perform for an afternoon of Southern Gospel music. Our very own Mission-B-Que will be serving a hearty dinner to those interested. Learn about the Mission and get your gospel on at this free event! Find out more.

Meet the bands we are thrilled to have joining us…

The Lighthouse Quartet in Concert

Bearing the name of our Mission’s icon, The Lighthouse Quartet also has a heart to see people’s lives transformed. “Every time we tell the Gospel story, something happens to somebody. The Lord is alive and well. He has given us a gift of harmony and a story to tell,” said 378921_277153402323050_17370206_nDick Fankhauser, the group’s tenor.

They are looking forward to the upcoming event, “because it is for a great cause to help those less fortunate to get the help they need in life, and hopefully draw closer to the source of life, Jesus Christ,” said Dick.

The Lighthouse Gospel Quartet sings various styles of music, but with a focus on Southern Gospel and hymn arrangements. They have traveled throughout Washington, Oregon and California, sharing their music and the message of the Gospel.

The Knox Brothers

knox-bros-web-bDid you know the Knox Brothers are 6 actual brothers that have been singing as a group for over 48 years?

A live band with four-part harmony, “We have traveled the USA many times, sang on 12 ocean cruises, and even opened for a Gaither homecoming at the Rose Garden,” says Victor Knox, one of the six.

Victor says “I remember singing a solo from the platform of the Portland Rescue Mission, some 65 years ago.” Victor and the Knox Brothers are excited to be back in Portland.

Cornerstone

img_0791Speaking of family performers, you’ll also hear from the group Cornerstone. Gordon and Peggy Kuryluk have been performing together for over 30 years. “Since 1979 we have traveled over a half million miles. We’ve sung throughout the US, Mexico, and Canada.  We’ve had many talented people join us over the years,” said Gordon. “Now our very talented daughters are part of the group.”

“We believe in Mission work, and we support all the individuals who work there.  We’re honored to be a part of this event.”

We’ll see you there!
