The Next Step

The Next Step transitional facility located at 103rd and Wygant, provides housing and community support for men in the third stage of the New Life Discipleship and Recovery Program. The third stage of the program involves a man continuing his growth in relation to the local church community of his choice; while maintaining the discipleship and accountability relationships he has established in earlier phases of the program. Additionally, he now has the freedom to pursue life goals in either education or employment.

This transitional program guides the men as they begin to accept financial and personal responsibility for their life. Employment options include men re-entering the workforce or embarking on an internship in rescue ministry. Educational goals can include achieving college credits and degrees prior to re-starting the job search.

The Next Step program also includes continued support from the mission chaplains and operational staff to disciple men, leading them to a newfound dependence on God for areas of life which they may have previously misused in the past. Weekly house meetings and training seminars bring together men who are pursuing Christian discipleship and accountability in this phase and the later parts of phase II. The Next Step program and facility are still in their infancy.

It is always a marvel to see God's hand move to provide the needed support for men moving from hopelessness on the streets of Portland to new life in Christ!
