Crisis Intervention

"When you come here and get your first meal, it ends up being a blessing. What the mission has given me is a hope, a purpose for living, and to find God's will. Once my basic necessities were taken care of, it gave me the motivation to start taking real steps in my life to change."- Dennis

To address the root causes of homelessness, the Portland Rescue Mission begins by providing the most basic emergency services to those in need. Food, shelter, hygiene services, and spiritual support are available daily at the Mission's Burnside Men's Shelter location.

  • Food: Hot, nutritious meals are served twice daily at the Mission, often to as many as 400 people.
  • Shelter: We provide shelter for up to 150 homeless men per night.
  • Bathroom: So many of us take bathroom use for granted, but for the homeless, having a 24-hour use bathroom for men, women, and children restores dignity and allows us to reach out to people we may not otherwise meet.
  • Mail Services: The Mission serves as a physical address for hundreds of homeless individuals' community wide- a vital service to those who need an address for job applications, family correspondence, and legal issues.
  • Referrals: We work closely with many other service providers to make sure the homeless population gets all of its needs met. We refer our guests to treatment programs, medical providers, employment programs, and transitional housing facilities when appropriate.
  • Chapel: Each day our homeless guests are presented with the message of God's love and healing, and presented with the hope of total life recovery.
