My Night In A Box is an overnight experience that connects youth and young adult groups to an issue that afflicts many of our neighbors in Portland: homelessness.

My Night in a Box advances a group’s understanding of God’s heart for broken and outcast people in our city, helping youth realize they are capable of making a difference in their community.
My Night in a Box does this through:
1. Education:
Group members participate in activities, teachings and small group discussions.
2. Service:
Group members serve homeless people through hands-on involvement at Portland Rescue Mission.
3. Advocacy:
Group members raise awareness about homeless people to others through a sponsorship fundraiser to friends and neighbors.
During My Night in a Box, youth stay overnight at a church, house or school and sleep in a cardboard box to simulate the experience of being homeless.
Portland Rescue Mission provides curriculum that includes:
- DVD testimonies from residents in our recovery program
- Teaching ideas and devotionals
- A service opportunity at a Portland Rescue Mission site
- Experiential activities designed to connect youth with Portland’s homeless
- As a part of My Night in a Box, youth financially support the ministry of Portland Rescue Mission by collecting sponsorship pledges prior to the event.
