Prayer Calendar — February 2011

WEEK ONE, February 1-4

  • At the end of January, we started a Bible study for homeless women at our Burnside Shelter. Most of the women have attended ReachOut, a foot massage ministry on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the shelter. The Bible study takes place on Thursday afternoons, and it engages women with Scripture and study. Please pray for this ministry, that staff and volunteers who lead it do so with patience, wisdom and grace, and that the guests would be blessed by it. Pray also for more volunteers with this opportunity.

WEEK TWO, February 5-11

  • The sister of a recovery resident passed away last month. Pray for him, that he would find strength and comfort in Christ and in his faith community. We praise God for putting this man in a safe and healthy place to grieve this tragic incident.
  • Vehicle donations at our Car Sales and Donations sites have been low this winter, and we need more vehicles in order to sustain our demand for sales and provide job skills training. Please pray fervently for this concern.

WEEK THREE, February 12-18

  • At Shepherd’s Door, our women and children’s recovery center, we are building a large garden to grow healthy fruits and vegetables and to promote life skills. Volunteers are welcome to come and do yard work here with our residents. Please pray for the growth of this exciting new opportunity, and pray for a good harvest—both edible and eternal fruit!

WEEK FOUR, February 19-25

  • This past Thanksgiving, our Partnership ministry was blessed to receive more requests to serve from potential volunteers than it could accommodate, and many of those holiday volunteer applicants have partnered with us to assist with the new weekend lunch service at our Burnside Shelter. Praise God!
  • Please continue to pray for the renovation of Next Step, our men’s recovery facility. This remodel will greatly increase our capability to serve men in long-term addictions recovery.

WEEK FIVE, February 26-29

  • “My Night in a Box” is a curriculum that trains young people to more tangibly understand the issue of homelessness. These events, hosted by Portland Rescue Mission and local churches, help church communities better reach homeless populations in their own neighborhoods through an increased understanding of their challenges. Please pray for these hands-on experiences, that they would reveal the depth of the issue and the vital role that churches can play in aid and recovery.
