Our volunteers change lives of hurting men, women and children every day.  Whether sorting clothes or serving meals, each and every volunteer helps bring healing.  Many volunteers feel that in the simple act of serving, they often receive even more than they give.

It takes thousands of volunteers to feed hungry people and bring healing to our communities.  Portland Rescue Mission staff work side by side with volunteers to train them in vital outreach and recovery roles that touch hundreds of people each day.

“I started volunteering at the Portland Rescue Mission because I hoped that I had something to offer. What I didn't expect was how much the men there had to offer me."
~ June, Burnside Shelter Volunteer

How we restore lives:

Portland Rescue Mission is a faith-based organization expressing the love of Jesus Christ by offering compassion, hope and healing to homeless and addicted people.  We value a culture of ministry that is highly relational, cultivates intimacy with Christ and openly expresses God's love for all.

Some ways volunteers serve:
  • Train recovery residents in educational and life skills
  • Answer phones and welcome homeless guests at the Burnside Shelter
  • Serve breakfast or dinner to homeless men, women and children
  • Keep our administrative costs low by assisting with office tasks
  • Help improve our grounds and facilities
  • Sort donated clothing and food at our warehouse
